Galthie's son follows in his father's footsteps
NEWS: France head coach Fabien Galthie’s son Mathis has signed his first professional rugby contract with the club where his father spent much of his own career as a player.
The 21-year-old scrumhalf is committed to second-tier Pro D2 side Colomiers until 2025, the club announced late Monday.
He already represents the side – where his father played in the same position in the 1980s and 1990s – having competed in 11 league matches this season.
“I’m very happy to sign my first professional contract with Colomiers, a club which opened the door of Pro D2 to me,” Galthie said in a statement.
“I can’t wait to be back on the pitch and help the team rock the Michel-Bendichou stadium.”
The signing with the side based in a Toulouse suburb coincided with his father’s 54th birthday, coming hard on the heels of leading France to second place behind Grand Slam winners Ireland in the Six Nations.
Colomiers are currently fifth in the Pro D2 division and are contenders for moving up into the first-division Top 14.
