Jake raids SA and Brumbies
Montpellier coach Jake White has infiltrated his former stomping grounds, making a number of signings from teams he used to mentor.
White, who had coaching roles at the Sharks and Brumbies as well as the South African national side, has confirmed 11 new signings for Montpellier – with a number of them from places where he used to ply his trade.
From the Brumbies White has signed fullback Jesse Mogg and scrumhalf Nic White. The Australian duo will join the French club at the culmination of the Super Rugby season.
From South Africa Cameron Wright of the Sharks will head to Montpellier, along with Jacques du Plessis and Wiaan Liebenberg of the Bulls. Demetri Catrakilis leaves the Stormers and Schalk van der Merwe the Lions to complete the list of players departing South Africa for France.
South African Paul Willemse, who is currently contracted to Grenoble in France, will join the migration to White's club, and so will former Lions prop Jacobie Adriaanse, who will link-up with Montpellier from Scarlets for a short stint until after the World Cup.
The other signings include Julien Malzieu (Clermont Auvergne, wing), Marvin O'Connor (Bayonne, wing) and Seveci Nakailagi (Fiji, wing).
Apart from White, there is already a large South African contingent at Montpellier.
Shaun Sowerby is White's assistant coach, while Pat Cilliers (prop) and Robert Ebersohn (centre) already play under White.
Springbok centre Wynand Olivier also played there since 2013, but he was one of 19 players recently announced to leave the club.
Players who left Montpellier include: Yohann Artru, David Attoub, Thomas Bianchin, Alexandre Bias, Maximiliano Bustos, Lucas Dupont, Teddy Iribaren, Chris King, Na'ama Leleimalefaga, Nahuel Lobo, Wynand Olivier, Jonathan Pélissié, Fred Quercy, Rene Ranger, Enzo Selponi, Benoît Sicart, Alex Tulou, Samisoni Viriviri and Albert Vulivuli.
