Lydiate Racing back home

Wales flank Dan Lydiate will bring down the curtain on his largely unsuccessful spell at Racing Metro and return home before the end of the year.

Lydiate, 26, capped 37 times by Wales and a member of last year's successful British and Irish Lions party in Australia, has started only two Top 14 games in France this season.

He apparently feels that having so little game time could hamper his preparations for the 2015 World Cup in England.

A club statement read: "At the request of the player, and after reaching a mutual agreement with the club, Dan Lydiate will leave Racing Metro 92 and return to Wales following the November Tests."

Lydiate joined Racing at the start of last season from Newport Gwent Dragons and will be joining one of the Welsh regions in December.

"We wish Dan an excellent end to the season with his new club, and all the best for his international future with Wales, whether for the November Tests, the Six Nations, or the 2015 World Cup," said Racing chairman Jacky Lorenzetti.

Lydiate, who is currently training with the Wales squad near Cardiff, said: "I would like to thank Racing Metro 92 for their welcome, and the 17 months I spent at the club.

"I would also like to thank the club officials for their understanding, and especially the way they agreed to release me from my contract."
