Lyon Bok under the knife

Lyon's South African prop Wian Du Preez and French flank Pierrick Gunther were both due to undergo operations on Monday.

Both suffered injuries in the opening match of the Top 14 season, a 9-18 defeat by Bordeaux-Begles, at the weekend.

Du Preez, who played his only Test for the Springboks again Italy in 2009, suffered a torn left Achilles tendon.

Gunther, a off-season signing from champions Toulon, ruptured his anterior cruciate ligaments in his right knee, medical sources said.

In a heavy blow for newly-promoted Lyon, the duo will be out for six months, with the club expected to recruit two replacements.
