Michalak wants to go back

Speaking to France’s sporting daily L’Equipe Frédéric Michalak said that he still wants to play for France and to do that he is ready to return to Europe.

Michalak was playing for the powerful Toulouse club when he went to Durban in May to play for the Sharks, the second time in his career that he has made the move. He was in the Sharks’ side that lost the Currie Cup Final and now has a three week-break.

It’s not that he is unhappy at the Sharks. On the contrary he enjoys the Sharks and the freedom they afford him to play in his own special way.

“I also take part in developing the gameplan and in discussing strategy.”

The 29-year-old, who first played for France at the age of 19, has had great success with the boot and ends the Currie Cup with 192 points, the most in the Currie Cup.

Michalak is contracted to the Sharks for the Super 15 and says that in three weeks he has to be back down there to prepare for the Super 15.

He knows that the Sharks would like to extend his contract but would like to return to Europe next summer to give himself a chance to play for France again. It is easier to do that in Europe because of the dates of matches.

He says that nothing is signed and certain. The only certainty is that he will not be going back to Toulouse where he was in fact born.

“It will be in France or, if needs be, in England but it will not be in Toulouse. I remain a supporter of the Toulouse team but I lived there only because I had to.”
