Oyonnax build state of the art pitch
Top 14 side Oyonnax will be the first French side to play on a synthetic pitch next season, the Rhone-Alpes club confirmed on Tuesday.
The Stade Charles-Mathon surface was often subjected to adverse weather conditions in the Ain region this year, so the club have decided to do away with the grass for next season.
Welsh region Cardiff Blues (Cardiff Arms Park) and English Premiership champions Saracens (Allianz Park) are two European clubs to have installed all-weather pitches, and several other French sides could soon follow suit.
Oyonnax will compete in the European Champions Cup next season after their sixth-placed finish in the Top 14 in the 2014/15 campaign. They were beaten 19-20 by Toulouse in the play-off quarterfinals.
