Toulon to appeal huge fine

REACTION: French Top 14 side Toulon said they will appeal after being fined €500,000 (US$537,000) by the National Rugby League for lack of transparency and cooperation in the 2022/23 season.

The fine was imposed by the LNR’s specialised ‘Salary Cap’ section of the Discipline Commission.

The fine was especially harsh as they were regarded as repeat offenders.

They were fined €70,000 euros in December last year for a similar offence when they signed South African star Cheslin Kolbe from rivals Toulouse in 2021.

“The €500,000 fine is strongly contested by the club, who will appeal this decision in the coming days to the French Rugby Federation Appeals Commission,” the three-time European Cup winners said in a statement.
