Vermaak's WC dream starts in CT

Jano Vermaak's dream of getting a Springbok World Cup call-up starts in Cape Town on July 1.

The Bok scrumhalf, Vermaak, has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Western Province and will be available for selection from July 1, once he has completed his current club commitments in France.

Vermaak, in a recent interview with rugby365, confirmed that he would be returning to South Africa with a view to making the squad for the World Cup in England in September and October.

The  30-year-old will make the move back to South Africa from French giants, Toulouse – joining Nic Groom, Louis Schreuder and Godlen Masimla as the senior scrumhalf options for the Stormers and Western Province.

Vermaak has won three Test caps for the Springboks, making his debut against Italy on June 8, 2013, before also featuring against the Wallabies and the All Blacks later that season.

"Jano is a quality signing and not only will he add some quality to our halfback resources, but he will also be able to pass on all his experience to Nic, Louis, Godlen and our younger No.9s [like Justin Phillips]," WP Director of Rugby Gert Smal said.

"His rugby CV speaks for itself, but Jano is also a great team man. His signing is a positive step for us at WP Rugby."

Vermaak, who has also represented the Lions and the Bulls in South Africa with much success, added: "I have been watching with interest how the Stormers and Western Province have performed and achieved so much success over the past few seasons.

"I would love nothing more than adding to that success, but I am also very excited to be joining this young team and working with an already talented group of players.

"I remain committed to Toulouse, but once I have finished the season here I look forward to returning home and giving my all for Western Province."
