BlitzBoks off to good start in Cape Town
MATCH REPORT: The Springbok Sevens team scored six tries as they Ireland by 36-7 in their pool opener at the HSBC SVNS Cape Town on a sunny and warm Saturday morning.
Quewin Nortje and Impi Visser scored two tries apiece at the Cape Town Stadium after David Brits had opened the scoring from a strong run by Donavan Don, while Mfundo Ndhlovu dotted down towards the end of the match.
It was a clinical performance by the BlitzBoks, as they had Ireland under pressure for most of the clash. Although they made the odd error or two, the only real blip by the South Africans was a ninth-minute try by Josh Costello.
With approximately five minutes left in the game, Philip Snyman sent on Zander Reynders for his Blitzbok debut, and the big player from Pretoria made a few big hits in his first match in green and gold.
Their second and final pool game is at 18h41 against Argentina. The top team in the pool will progress straight to the semifinals.’
