O'Leary to miss Six Nations

Ireland scrumhalf Tomas O'Leary will miss next year's Six Nations after undergoing surgery on a longstanding back injury.

The 29-year-old has not played for his club London Irish since the end of October and did not feature in any of Ireland's end-of-year international matches.

"London Irish scrumhalf Tomas O'Leary underwent a surgical procedure on his lower back last Tuesday (December 4) for a degenerative pre-existing injury that has deteriorated this season," read a statement from London Irish.

"Tomas has been unavailable for selection since his last appearance for London Irish against Harlequins at the Madejski Stadium on 28th October.

"He now faces four to six months lay-off."

Ireland begin their Six Nations campaign against Wales in Cardiff on February 2.
