VIDEO: Boks to spring a few 'surprises' in series decider

SPOTLIGHT: The Springboks have made no secret about their desire to get more dominance with their powerful forward pack in the second Test against Ireland.

Last weekend, Andy Farrell’s side frustrated the Boks at set-piece time in Pretoria, especially in the first half.

The Springboks also struggled to get their mauls going in the encounter and that is something Franco Mostert is eager to rectify after that 27-20 win.

The big lock hinted that his team might have a few tricks up their sleeves for the series decider at Kings Park on Saturday.

“I think they did a very good job of stopping the mauls last weekend,” said Mostert.

“We know they are a side that doesn’t concede a lot of maul tries or maul penalties.

“For us, it’s about doing what works but trying to do it better.

“Hopefully, this week we can catch them out with one or two surprises.”

Mostert believes there needs to be more cohesion at line-out time in Durban.

“In the first half we had a good plan and when RG [Snyman] came on [in the second half], we had another plan and I think it worked out well,” the 33-year-old added.

“We know they are one of the best teams in the world when it comes to contesting in the line-outs, so you need to have good plans against them.

“The most important thing for us is to be on the same page.

“Everyone knows their job and hopefully everything will work out on Saturday.”

The Bok pack will also need to provide their scrumhalves with more protection at the breakdowns.

“They did a really good job putting Faf [de Klerk] and Grant [Williams] under pressure.

“I think it’s our [forwards] responsibility to sort it out for them.

“We are working hard on this and hopefully we can get them cleaner ball this weekend,” said Mostert.
