VIDEO: Bulls utility back Boeta Chamberlain has the support of his new teammates to call the shots and play his natural game.

The 25-year-old new recruit joined the Bulls in May this year from the Sharks after long speculation about his move was rampant.

Having seemingly fallen out of contention at the Sharks, Chamberlain grabbed the opportunity to further his career in Pretoria under the watchful eyes of their Director of Rugby, Jake White.

At the time of the move, White explained his reasoning behind the acquisition and heaped praise on Chamberlain as a versatile player who can move around between positions, something the Bulls coach dearly love in a player.

The Paarl Boys High prodigy exploded onto the Currie Cup scene in 2019, standing in for the injured Curwin Bosch at pivot for the Sharks.

Sitting down with reporters on Tuesday, Chamberlain explained his reasoning behind the move up North and how it has impacted his career and private life.

“Pretoria is a bit different from Durban, but I’ve always been used to being away from home.

“I am originally from Cape Town so the first move to Durban wasn’t that difficult.

“I think it is harder for my wife, she grew up in Durban so it’s something to get used to being on her own this side,” Chamberlain said.

He added that the Bulls players have embraced him since arriving in the capital, giving him full support on and off the pitch.

“There are a lot of players I can learn from in the way they train, the way they think about things on the field and off the field.

“To be in a team that likes throwing the ball around likes taking chances and backing each other in the decisions they make on the field has been some of the main reasons for my move.

“It has made me grow as a player, everyone is very supportive. They back my decisions, they back me and it gives me confidence to play my natural game,” he responded.

Chamberlain is very comfortable at flyhalf and fullback but reveals that the No. 10 position remains his favourite.

“It’s very similar [the two positions].

“The only time is probably that flyhalf has less time than on fullback.

“We tend to use fullback a lot as first receiver as well.

“The biggest difference is probably only the number on the back.

“If I have to choose between the two, I will undoubtedly go with flyhalf,” he confirmed.

The Bulls take on Ulster in the United Rugby Championship at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday after their victory over Edinburgh last weekend (22-16).
