Another SA coach helps Italy against Boks

Last year Brendan Venter played a key role in Italy's historic 20-18 win over the Boks in Florence. However, due to a conflict of interest, he will be sitting out Saturday's showdown.

Venter will be working with Italy as a consultant until the 2019 World Cup and he also joined the Boks coaching team this year as a defence consultant.

Goosen is now part of Italy's coaching team and in charge of their defence.

Goosen is a former Bulls, Stormers and Treviso player. After a long playing career, the 43-year-old became Treviso's coach in 2016 after playing for the club for a number of years.

"It [Italy versus Springboks] will be a very important game after the defeat [to Argentina] in Florence. The match will help us understand what point we are at in terms of our growth," Goosen told federugby.it.

Goosen believes the Springboks will be a different beast in Padova compared to the team they beat in Florence last year.

"South Africa has grown a lot in the last year, it is not the same team that we beat in Florence in 2016, but we will prepare to go on the field and put in a quality performance," Goosen added.
