NZRU chasing Sonny Bill again

The New Zealand Rugby Union said it has made an offer to code-swapping star Sonny Bill Williams to return to the Super Rugby champion Chiefs next year.

New Zealand media reported that the NZRU offered Williams a three-year deal which would see him return to Rugby Union next season and extend his 19-test All Blacks career.

NZRU Chief Executive Steve Tew confirmed the union had made the offer, saying: "The dialogue has been positive but we don't have any ink on paper."

Williams switched from Rugby League to Rugby Union in 2008, playing for Toulon in France and moved to New Zealand in 2010 – becoming an All Black in 2010.

He played for the Crusaders in Super Rugby in 2011 and joined up with the Chiefs the following year, when they won he first of their back-to-back titles.

He had a stint in Japan and returned to Rugby League earlier this year, playing for the Sydney Roosters.
