Portugal wing in hot water over Kung-Fu kick
NEWS: Portugal wing Vincent Pinto will appear before an independent Judicial Committee in Paris after he received a red card for kicking Wales’ wing Josh Adams in the face during the World Cup match in Nice on Friday.
Pinto came down to the ground after he went up to catch a high ball, lost his balance and his leg extended, catching the onrushing Adams as he came in to tackle.
The match TMO Marius Jonker sent Pinto to the foul play bunker with a yellow card which was later upgraded to a red and some former players have since called it a Kung-Fu kick.
Following a review by the Foul Play Review Official, Pinto’s hearing is for an offence contrary to Law 9.11 (players must not do anything reckless to others).
At the player’s request, the hearing will take place on Tuesday, September 19.
The independent Disciplinary Committee that will hear the matter will be chaired by Jean-Noël Couraud (France), joined by former coach Frank Hadden (Scotland) and former player Leon Lloyd (England).
