Moodie: Bulls' Glasgow battle gives Boks valuable Scotland insight
Thanks to a strong Bulls contingent in the squad, South Africa have first-hand knowledge of the threats posed by a Scotland side built around the 19 Glasgow Warriors included in the squad.
Springbok wing Canan Moodie believes the Bulls’ recent history with Glasgow in the United Rugby Championship has given the Springboks valuable insight into how Gregor Townsend’s side likes to play, with the majority of Scotland’s matchday squad coming from the Scottish club.
“It does,” Moodie said when asked whether those URC battles provide an advantage.
“We played them not too long ago in the semifinals, and I think the majority of the team are from the Glasgow team, so it does give us a good view of the attack and how the players like to play.

“So we played against those guys, so we have a better understanding of how they play and what they’re trying to do.”
That understanding will be crucial against a Scotland backline renowned for stretching defences and attacking with width.
“They’re very, very dangerous,” Moodie said.
“They’re a very attack-minded team and they’ve got the ball players to do that. Against Argentina, they showed they know how to move the ball wide, so we’ve got to prepare well and make sure we’re ready for that.”
Another key battleground is expected to be the aerial contest, an area that has become increasingly important in the modern game.
Moodie, one of South Africa’s strongest performers under the high ball, believes the Springboks are well equipped to deal with whatever Scotland throw at them.
“I think we’re well prepared for the high balls,” he said.
