Reid joins Scotland squad

Glasgow Warriors prop Gordon Reid was drafted into the Scotland squad on Monday as preparations intensify for Sunday’s Test against New Zealand at Murrayfield.

Reid, who joined the Warriors at the start of last season and who scored a cracking try in Glasgow’s win against the Dragons at the weekend, is a product of the Ayr club and has also represented the Scotland Club International XV.

Scotland team manager Gavin Scott said: “We’ve asked Gordon to train with us today as Kyle Traynor played for his club, Bristol, yesterday and will thus follow our usual protocol and not be training with the squad today.”

Kelly Brown, the Scotland captain, was involved in his club Saracens’ match against Wasps on Sunday so he too will resume training on Tuesday.

All other Scotland players took part in the afternoon’s training other than lock Richie Gray, who undertook an individual programme with the squad’s medical team, following on from his ankle rehabilitation work over the last week.

The dynamic lock, who plays for English club Sale, has been struggling with an ankle injury and was withdrawn from the team that beat London Irish in the Premiership on Friday.

Injuries mean Scotland coach Andy Robinson is set to name a much-changed side from the one that kicked off their last Test, a win away to Samoa in June, when he reveals his line-up on Tuesday.

Four players who started against Samoa are definitely out.

Centre Joe Ansbro and scrum-half Chris Cusiter are not available due to injury, No.8 Richie Vernon did not make the initial squad and tighthead prop Euan Murray is not available as he won't play on a Sunday for religious reasons.

Scotland have never beaten the All Blacks, since the first meeting in 1905 in Inverleith, Edinburgh with their best results in 28 meetings two draws, in 1964 and 1983 respectively.
