Aphiwe Dyantyi reflects on 'error period'

SPOTLIGHT: Former Springbok wing Aphiwe Dyantyi has revealed he will make a return to rugby in 2023.

Dyantyi is currently serving a four-year ban from rugby after testing positive for three banned substances in 2019.

His mandatory B sample confirmed the presence of banned substances methandienone, methyltestosterone and LGD-4033 in June 2019.

Consequently, the 2018 World Rugby Breakthrough Player of the year, was suspended from all forms of rugby on August 13, 2019, and missed the 2019 World Cup in Japan.

The 27-year-old’s suspension runs until August 12, 2023.

Taking to social the wing, who is entering his third year away from rugby, briefly opened up about the challenges he faced in recent years.

But he remains optimistic and wrote he looks forward to a return to the field.

“This year marks three years out of the game,” Dyantyi wrote.

“A very challenging three years coupled with tears, rebuilding, love and laughter.

“A trial and error period in my life, but two business projects down the line, I wouldn’t change anything about my life journey.

“The support has been both heartwarming and humbling [Thank You].

“I’m only getting started. ”

Prior to the positive test for the banned substance, Dyantyi was well on his way to becoming one of the most prolific wings.

The former University of Johannesburg wing made his Super Rugby debut in 2018 with the Lions and his quick feet instantly made him a star,

He earned 13 Springboks caps, scoring six tries, and was named World Rugby Breakthrough Player of the Year 2018.
