They raced to a 24-0 half-time lead with two tries by Tiaan Pretorius with Shilton van Wyk, and Christoffel Grobbelaar also dotting down.

Mexico’s Pascal Nadaud received a yellow card in the first half for a deliberate knock down which turned into a red card in the second half for the same offence.

Pretorius sealed his hat-trick in the second half with Tristan Leyds, Impi Visser and Siviwe Soyiswapi also dotting down to seal an emphatic 44-0 win.

“We are happy with the first game,” BlitzBoks captain Selvyn Davids said after the match.

“I think we laid a solid foundation, did our basics well and did what the coaches asked of us. We knew that if we look after the system, the system will look after us.

“It’s going to get much tougher now. The next game is going to be more physical then today [Friday], we expect Tonga to come out all guns blazing so we just have to stick to what we do best.
