Bloem stadium gets new surface for Portugal Test

NEWS: The Free State Stadium, the iconic home of the Cheetahs, is set to undergo the yearly re-sowing of its playing surface starting Monday, April 15.

This initiative follows the SA Cup match between the Cheetahs and Eastern Province, scheduled for the weekend.

The re-sowing process is expected to take approximately six weeks from the commencement until the field is ready for play.

Consequently, the SA Cup match between the Cheetahs and the Griquas, scheduled for Friday, May 17, will be relocated to an alternative venue which will be communicated soon.

Furthermore, this rejuvenation process is necessary to prepare the field for the highly anticipated Test between the Springboks and Portugal on July 20.

While the temporary relocation may inconvenience some, it is essential to maintain the standards expected at the Free State Stadium.

“Fans can rest assured that efforts are being made to minimize disruption,” the Cheetahs said in a statement.

“The management of the Cheetahs expresses gratitude for the cooperation and understanding of fans and stakeholders during this necessary replanting period.”
