Springbok captain Siya Kolisi and lock Eben Etzebeth will walk Du Plessis to the ring ahead of his title defence against Israel Adesanya.

South Africa’s national team is in Perth for the second round of the Rugby Championship.

They face Australia on Saturday, after opening their campaign with a comfortable 33-7 win in Brisbane last week.

Speaking to KFM breakfast, Du Plessis confirmed that plans are in place for the Bok captain and Test centurion to be by his side when he walks down to the Octagon.

“We’re busy with that, getting Eben and Siya to walk out with us,” South Africa’s UFC world champion said.

“It looks like it’s going to be a done deal,” said Du Plessis – a huge Springbok fan who was ever-present at the successful World Cup campaign in France last year.

“We are going to have them walk out with me.

“They won’t be sitting in the corner, but they will be walking with me to the Octagon, which is pretty special.

Du Plessis said he is just as proud to be a South African as the Boks.

“Once I put that South African flag around my shoulders, there is nothing in the world that can stop me.

“He [Adesanya] can knock me down, but he won’t knock me out and he won’t keep me down.”
