For the second year running, the Springbok Women will be in action, facing Japan, Australia and Italy on their three match days, while Wales and Scotland complete the roster.

Matches are scheduled to be played at the Cape Town Stadium and Athlone Stadium in Cape Town, on the last weekend of September and the first two weekends of October.

“Last year, we saw how successful it was to create a family-friendly environment to enjoy top-class international rugby, and we are hoping for more of the same this time around,” said Rian Oberholzer, CEO of Sout African Rugby Union (SARU).

“The Springbok Women play most of their rugby abroad and they got great support here last year. With the Women’s World Cup in England next year moving into view, this is a wonderful opportunity to support our players in a proper international competition.”

The Springbok Women finished third last year behind Scotland and Italy, edging out Japan, the United States and Samoa. The USA will feature in WXV 1 this year in Canada, with Samoa dropping to WXV 3, which will be hosted in Dubai.

Meanwhile, three South African match officials will be involved in the WXV competition, with two of them due to achieve career milestones.

Local referee, Zoe Naude, is set to make her test debut as referee in round two of the WXV 2 on October 5 when she will officiate Japan and Scotland at Athlone Stadium.

Before that, Aimee Barrett-Theron will become the first female to referee 40 tests when she takes charge of the England/New Zealand test match at Twickenham on September 14 in the WXV 1 competition.

Quinton Immelman will also be one of the Television Match Officials for the WXV 1 tournament.
