Fake news: SARU on WPRFU administrator reports

REACTION: The South African Rugby Union has dismissed as ‘incorrect’ reports that Chris Swift has been appointed as administrator of the Western Province Rugby Football Union.

Sunday newspaper Rapport said that Swift, the Head of Finance at Access Management, has been appointed to replace Rian Oberholzer as the WPRFU administrator.

Oberholzer, the Managing Director of Access Management, was appointed CEO of SA Rugby at the beginning of March – replacing Jurie Roux, who stepped down in December.

Swift, on his LinkedIn profile, is described as a Corporate accounting professional with extensive experience across a wide range of companies.

He has the ability to compile, verify, analyse, interpret and disseminate critical financial data (actual, forecast and budgeted) to all major stakeholders.

Swift is also successful in implementing, analysing and management of new accounting systems and procedures, including systems integration and staff training.

However, SARU has dismissed the report.

“An announcement is expected to be made shortly, once the South African Rugby Union Executive Council has considered the recommendation of its Finance Committee,” the SARU statement read.

“The new incumbent replaces Rian Oberholzer who was appointed CEO of SA Rugby at the beginning of March.”
