Former Bok coach loses wife in drowning tragedy
NEWS: Tragedy has struck Peter de Villiers’ family after his wife drowned in a pool in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth} on Monday.
According to the Herald Live, an inquest docket has been opened after Theresa De Villiers’ body was found floating in a pool in Fairview around midday. She was found by a family member.
“The deceased is from Paarl, but was visiting family in Gqeberha. She was found in the pool by a family member. No foul play is suspected,” police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said.
“The circumstances surrounding the drowning is under investigation.”
GOOD Party leader Patricia de Lille sent her condolences to De Villiers family.
De Villiers was the GOOD Party’s mayoral candidate for the Drakenstein Municipality last year.
“On behalf of the GOOD Party, I extend our most heartfelt condolences to former SA rugby coach and GOOD Councillor, Peter de Villiers, on the tragic passing of his beloved wife,” said De Lille in a statement.
“Mrs Theresa de Villiers passed away unexpectedly earlier today.
“May strength, peace, and love surround you and your family, Coach, as you go through this difficult time.”
De Villiers also lost his daughter, Odille Monk, to cancer in December 2019.
“On behalf of Eastern Province Rugby, the Executive, our members, the clubs and our supporters, we want to extend our heartfelt condolences to Peter and his family. We will keep him in our thoughts throughout this sad experience,” said EP Rugby President Maasdorp Cannon.
