French swansong for Smith?

World Cup-winning Springbok flank Juan Smith will reportedly see out his illustrious career in France.

Smith, who last played for South Africa in 2010, has been sidelined for most of the past two seasons due to a recurring Achilles injury that has threatened to end his career.

Smith confirmed that he is back to full fitness but said he would rush back into action this year.

"I'm ready to play again, but with the Currie Cup nearing its end, I don't want to put pressure on myself," said Smith.

Volksblad reports that the 69-Test veteran is set to move to France next year unless he receives a lucrative contract from a South African franchise.

Top 14 club Bayonne are reportedly favourites to snap up 31-year-old Smith’s signature.
