Lood Müller dies in accident

A policeman and a gentleman, Müller first played for Natal in 1989 and went on to play for them 90 times, a man as steady as a prop can be. He played in the Currie Cup finals of 1992, which Natal won, and 1993, which Transvaal won.

In 1992, when South Africa had abandoned apartheid and was back in full international competition, he played in the first two tests – against the All Blacks at Ellis Park when South Africa lost 270-24 and against the Wallabies at Newlands when South Africa lost 26-3.

When he was training for a career in the police, he played for Adelaars in Pretoria and then, back home, he played for Pietermaritzburg Police.

Lodewyk Joseph Jurgens Müller was born in Pietermaritzburg on 5 June 1959. He went to school at Voortrekker in Pietermaritzburg and played for Natal Schools while there. after training he stationed in Pietermaritzburg. He rose to the rank of captain.
