Player ratings: Error strewn
The Springboks have fallen to their second ever loss to Wales at the millennium stadium in a scrappy 6-12 defeat.
A game that was dominated by the boot with all 18 points in the match coming from the kickers saw the Springboks forced into too many errors.
Pat Lambie and Leigh Halfpenny traded penalties with the score sitting at 3-3 at halftime.
However in the second half, the Welsh were able to soak up the pressure and kick their way to victory over an out of sorts Springbok team.
Darryn Pollock rates the Springboks.
15 Willie le Roux
Received a number of tough passes and was well marshaled by the Welsh defence – no spark of magic this time and a few costly errors at the end.
5/10
14 Cornal Hendricks
caught out of position once or twice which left the Boks exposed, missed a tackle and got a harsh yellow card.
4/10
13 Jan Serfontein
Was fairly anonymous through out, made the tackles that needed to be made, but did miss one.
5/10
12 Jean de Villiers (captain)
Fairly quiet game that was cut short by injury, didn't see much of the ball but made his tackles.
6/10
11 Lwazi Mvovo
Good work cleaning up at the back, showed his worth as a hard working, all-round wing.
7/10
10 Pat Lambie
A bit of a nervy game from the flyhalf, a couple silly mistakes but a great penalty kick or two as well as a nice break.
6/10
9 Cobus Reinach
Still a little slow in his service as he took his time in making decisions.
6/10
8 Duane Vermeulen
Another super-human performance, massive amount of positive carries that really softened up the Welsh defence.
8/10
7 Teboho Mohojé
Continues to show he is dependable but not spectacular.
6/10
6 Marcell Coetzee
A good ball carrying exhibition and energetic as usual – but still not keen to offload in the contact.
7/10
5 Victor Matfield
Showed his experience in making a few calls that paid off and did pester the Welsh in the line-outs.
6/10
4 Eben Etzebeth
He is crawling back to his best form with a few more abrasive carries and tackles.
7/10
3 Coenie Oosthuizen
Cannot fault his work rate, good supporting lines and defence – his scrumming was up to standard too – mostly.
6/10
2 Bismarck du Plessis
Looked to get a lot more involved and was strong towards the ball on the floor.
6/10
1 Tendai Mtawarira
Last weeks break seemed to revive him as he looked to get far more involved both with carries and the tighter stuff.
7/10
Replacements:
16 Adriaan Strauss (on for B. Du Plessis, 57 mins)
Made a crucial turnover and looked full of energy.
7/10
17 Trevor Nyakane (on for Mtawarira, 53 mins)
Destroyed in his first scrum, but bounced back well enough.
5/10
18 Julian Redelinghuys (on for Oosthuizen, 70 mins)
Not enough time to be rated.
19 Lodewyk de Jager (on for Etzebeth, 69 mins)
Not enough time to be rated.
20 Nizaam Carr (on for Mohojé, 53 mins)
Came on and was busy straight away, a real live wire with his runs.
7/10
21 Francois Hougaard (on for Reinach, 62 mins)
Tried to raise the intensity of the match, but failed dismally.
4/10
22 Handré Pollard (on for Lambie, 57 mins)
Couldn't turn the tide which was by this time very much against the Boks.
5/10
23 Damian de Allende (on for De Villiers, 57 mins)
Had a few chances to make magic happen, but couldn't make anything of his opportunities.
6/10
