Player ratings: Fade out
The World XV fell off the pace in the second half as the Springboks pulled away from them to secure a 47-13 victory at Newlands.
As a collection of individuals with hardly any time to prepare it was always going to be tough for Nick Mallett's allstars to mount a serious challenge, and their lack of cohesion was exposed as the legs grew tired after half-time.
There were some impressive individual performances, with the starting front row getting the better of their Bok rivals in particular, but they could not sustain their challenge and the home side ran away with it as the game opened up.
We rate the World XV players:
15 James O'Connor
Broke a few tackles and looked a threat in space, but got caught out of position a few times and fell off some tackles.
5/10
14 Drew Mitchell
Did not see very much of the ball on attack, but covered well on defence and put his boot to good used when required.
6/10
13 Rene Ranger
A mixed bag as he showed his stepping ability and strength in the tackle but also spilled his fair share of ball.
6/10
12 Wynand Olivier
Took the Springbok defence on with his direct running and was forced to get through a lot of tackles but never really stamped his authority on the game.
6/10
11 Hosea Gear
Ran hard and looked for work but got exposed on defence at times and drifted out of the game.
5/10
10 Matt Giteau
The heartbeat of the side, he attacked the gainline hard and put in some clever kicks whilst his defence was rock solid, but the exploits of the last two weeks clearly caught up with him as he fell off the pace after half-time.
7/10
9 Rory Kockott
Played with plenty of urgency and was able to expose some space with his hard-running approach, but a few sloppy moments also cost his side momentum.
6/10
8 Roger Wilson
Made some very strong runs in the first half and enjoyed playing behind a dominant scrum whilst he was strong on defence as well.
6/10
7 Steffon Armitage
Made good ground with the ball in hand but did not make the impact expected at the breakdown despite putting in some big tackles.
7/10
6 Mamuka Gorgodze
Very confrontational he was a physical threat until he was shown a yellow card for repeatedly infringing at the maul.
5/10
5 Alistair Hargreaves
Impressive performance, he made a storming start by scoring what would be his team's only try and held his own in the line-outs as well although he was caught offside a few times.
6/10
4 Juandré Kruger
Very solid in the line-out and combined well with Hargreaves for the first try, but lacked the grunt to fulfill the role of a tight lock against the imposing Springbok pack.
6/10
3 Carl Hayman
The veteran tighthead showed his value at scrum-time as the World XV gave the Bok front row a tough time of it, and also made some hard tackles.
7/10
2 Craig Burden
Explosive from the start, he injected plenty of urgency and made a few impressive breaks on the blindside. Missed the odd tackle but was a force on attack.
7/10
1 Sona Taumalolo
The Tongan loosehead had a grewat time in the scrums and made his presence felt around the park on attack and defence.
7/10

He may be retired but he showed good dedication and posed a threat at the breakdown as well.
6/10
17 Schalk Ferreira (On for Taumololo, 55 mins)
Blown up at a scrum immediately after coming on but settled down as he found his feet.
6/10
18 Pat Cilliers (On for Hayman, 55 mins)
Solid at scrum-time, but could do little to stop the Boks' driving maul as the home side finished strong.
6/10
19 Joe Tekori (On for Kruger, 41 mins)
Tried to add a physical edge up front, but got involved in too much off-the-ball niggle.
5/10
20 Alexandre Lapandry (On for Armitage, 67 mins)
Carried the ball up well but the game was gone by the time he came on.
6/10
21 Jimmy Cowan (On for Kockott, 69 mins)
Did not spend long on the pitch as he was shown a yellow card for stamping just after coming on.
2/10
22 François Trinh-Duc (On for Giteau, 58 mins)
Made a few promising runs and kicked well but was up against a late Bok tidal wave.
6/10

Looked for work but did not get much opportunity to stretch his legs.
