Rassie in his own words: 'Lekka' explanation about social media strategy
Fresh back from a second ban, South Africa’s Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus took to social media again.
However, unlike some of his most recent posts on Twitter, this will not elicit another World Rugby response.
Erasmus, following his return from a year-long matchday ban, was slapped with a two-match suspension – missing the Springboks’ wins over Italy and England last month.
The outspoken Bok boss took to Vimeo and explained why he decided to take to social media – despite being against his players appearing on those platforms.
Promising that it will last only 15 minutes, Erasmus’ monologue lasted 20 minutes.
“I was always against social media,” he said, adding: “I once thought it was the enemy.
“I soon realised that giving media access to the team is important so that fans can have a better understanding of how we are operating.”
Erasmus said that once he realised the power of social media, he decided to embrace it as an avenue to connect to the fans.

“It helped me feel much closer to the supporters,” he said.
“Sometimes you post things in a personal way that can upset people, but that’s the way it goes in life.
“I learned that some people also enjoy seeing a human side to you.”
Erasmus hinted that there would be similar exchanges and interactions if there waS A BIG ENOUGH DEMAND FROM FANS.
“I hope I explained most of that and maybe we’ll do this again and hopefully I didn’t say something that can get me into trouble again.
“Thanks for tuning in.
“Sorry, it was 20 minutes and not 15.
“Maybe again next week, or if I see there is some good engagement and this helps at some level maybe a little bit later or sooner. Have a lovely day. Thank you.”
