At the pre-trial, the judge will determine whether all necessary documents – which has caused many of the delays – are now in order.

A date – for the civil case against Roux to be heard – will be set by the registrar.

The start of the actual case might not take place for some time.

The dispute between Roux and the University of Stellenbosch revolves around his time as Chairman of Maties Rugby Club.

Roux became Chief Executive Officer of the South African Rugby Union in 2010, when he left the university.

The allegation against Roux is that he "manipulated" financial management systems to favour the rugby programme during his time at Stellenbosch.

The university claims that Roux misallocated as much as ZAR32-million.

All kinds of allegations were aimed at the SARU CEO – including that he used software that would not leave an audit trail.

He has steadfastly maintained his innocence.

However, a damning report by audit firm KPMG suggested there is evidence that justifies charges against Roux.
