'Suffering and damage': Rassie has his say on Jantjies saga
REACTION: South Africa’s Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus has broken his silence on the allegations surrounding flyhalf Elton Jantjies.
Weekend media reports claimed that Jantjies and the team’s dietician, Zeenat Simjee, had an affair during a Springbok training camp in the build-up to the Rugby Championship.
The Bok management later confirmed that the two returned home from Argentina – where South Africa is preparing for the Round Five Rugby Championship encounter with Los Pumas.
There has been plenty of reaction to the story on social media.
On Monday, former Springbok loose forward Rob Louw shared a joke about it.
In a tweet directed at Erasmus, Louw said: “I don’t understand the @Springboks selectors now that Elton scores he gets sent home @RassieRugby.”
A laughing emoji accompanied that tweet.
On Tuesday, Erasmus posted a tweet in response to Louw’s comments.
“Rob you tagged me, so I guess you want a response,” said Erasmus.
“I have obviously been guilty of making comments/fun of stuff like this in the past!
“When I see the suffering & damage to innocent children & parents involved I tend to think twice before I comment [just respect for the families].”
It is not the first time this year that the 32-year-old Bok No.10 has hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
In May he was arrested at the OR Tambo airport in Johannesburg, following an incident on a flight.
He was charged with malicious damage to property of an airline he had flown with from Dubai to Johannesburg.
The charges were withdrawn in June.
