Two Bok backs out of Durban Test

Juan de Jongh and Marnitz Boshoff will not be considered for selection for Saturday's Test against Wales in Durban, because of illness and injury.

De Jongh was admitted to a Durban hospital on Sunday evening with a severe chest infection.

He will in all likelihood only be discharged by Wednesday and will not be ready to take on Wales this weekend.

Boshoff rolled his ankle at training in Cape Town last week.

He has a grade one ankle sprain and the Springbok medical team are hopeful that he would be able to start training again late this week.

A decision on both players' further involvement in the two-Test series against Wales (in Durban this Saturday, June 14, and Nelspruit next week, June 21), as well the one-off international against Scotland (Port Elizabeth, June 28) will only be taken at a later stage.

Both will remain with the squad for the time being.

"Juan de Jongh got quite a bad fever and a lung infection, so we ended up sending him to hospital to put him onto so antibiotics," Springboks team doctor Craig Roberts said at the team hotel in Umhlanga.

"He's going to remain in hospital for three days.

"Marnitz rolled his ankle last week in Cape Town. He's recovering well, but unfortunately both will be unavailable for Saturday."

Another Stormers player, flank Siya Kolisi, is also ill, although he was expected to be fit come the weekend.

Experienced trio Bakkies Botha, Willem Alberts and Jannie du Plessis all watched training from the sidelines on Monday, although they were just being given more time to recover.

"We sat them out of training to give them an extra day to recover from the bumps and bruises picked up on Saturday," Roberts said.
