WATCH: Another unique move by Rassie
From leading one of the biggest teams in the world to being one of the most respected voices in rugby, Springbok head coach Rassie Erasmus has made another genius move.
The World Cup-winning coach launched his podcast Rassie+ where he delves into raw honest conversation with legends and friends.
In the first episode of Rassie+, the Springbok mentor sits down with Felix Jones.
After a short stint with England, the 37-year-old Jones returned to the Springbok setup at the start of the month.
The Irishman explained that he had to get used to a couple of things in South Africa.
“The biggest thing I needed to get used to was certainly the humour,” Jones told Erasmus on the Rassi+.
“Obviously when you are with a new group you try to make a few jokes, but they just landed completely flat.
“I knew it was going to be a little bit harder than I thought.”
Jones admitted the diversity in the Bok set-up helped his coaching career.
“The difference in culture was a huge one [to get used to as well].
“You think okay I’m going to South Africa I have to get used to the South African way and it’s not the same as going into France or Ireland where the people are generally similar.
“While in South Africa, there are so many different cultures, languages and ways of doing things.
“For me, it was eye-opening.
“For instance, speaking to Makazole Mapimpi for the first time, I’ve never met someone like him versus speaking to Pieter-Steph du Toit. Both have such different experiences in their lives and I had to figure out how to get my message across to them and also try to fit in.
“Professionally it helped me grow.”
He added: “Now coming back when you see how kind everybody is especially in the Springbok context. Everybody is in the room for the right reasons. The intention is for you [Erasmus] to do well, for me to do for the team to do well, irrespective of the upbringing.”
