Western Province end Grant Khomo Week on a high
WRAP: It was a perfect Grant Khomo week for the Free State XV and Western Province who finished the tournament unbeaten at Grey High School.
The Final match took place between two traditional rivals with Western Province taking on Blue Bulls in a north v south clash that lived up to the hype.
Western Province ran in five tries on the afternoon but the star of the show was Blue Bulls wing Yuvrah George who scored a hat-trick in the losing cause – extending his week’s tally to six.
Western Province ultimately claimed the win by 31-22.
The Free State XV also gave a good account of themselves with a 31-20 win over the Griffons to keep their winning streak intact.
The two unbeaten sides both scored 13 tries over the course of the three-match campaign.
The top point scorers, however, were the Golden Lions who ended the week with the most overall points (101) and joint for most tries (14) .
A large chunk of their points came in their resounding 66-point win against Border where they scored 10 tries on day three.
Centre Jaydon Viljoen capped the week off with a tournament-leading 46 points.
In the other clashes, the Falcons also racked up a big score against Border CD in a 10-try 60-15 rout.
The Sharks had to fight back from a seven-point half-time deficit to earn a hard-earned 20-19 win against SWD.
Eastern Province ended their campaign on a high after a hat-trick by centre Ciaran Killian ensured a 36-33 win over the Western Province XV.
