World Rugby stays mum on Rassie hearing

UPDATE: South Africa’s Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus may have to wait a while longer for the outcome of his disciplinary hearing.

Erasmus and SA Rugby appeared before a World Rugby-instituted disciplinary panel at the weekend.

The hearing was chaired by Christopher Quinlan, with his fellow panel members being Nigel Hampton (New Zealand) and Mike Mika (New Zealand).

World Rugby said the disciplinary committee will publish a ‘full written decision’, following the completion of the entire proceedings.

A spokesman for World Rugby on Sunday told @rugby365com that they are not anticipating an outcome for a ‘few days’ yet.

The hearing followed the leaking of an hour-long video produced by Erasmus after the first Test between the Springboks and the British and Irish Lions.

The Director of Rugby pointed out mistakes made by Australian referee Nic Berry and his officiating team in the Springboks’ 17-22 loss in Cape Town in late July.

According to unconfirmed South African media reports World Rugby admitted that Erasmus was correct with 23-of the 26 points he made in the video.

However, it is believed the content of the video was not the major problem.

It’s the fact that it was leaked into the public domain.

Erasmus has suggested he may not be the source of the leak and it is believed a forensic audit was done to find the leak.
