SQUAD ANNOUNCEMENTS: South Africa’s Women’s Sevens team will defend their Africa Women’s Seven’s title in Ghana this weekend, coming up against Burkina Faso in their opening match, before taking on Zimbabwe and Tunisia in Pool A of the tournament.

The Africa Women’s 7s Tournament kicks off on Saturday, November 9, with 18 matches scheduled at the University of Ghana Rugby Stadium in Accra, Ghana.
The tournament will bring together 12 national women’s teams at full strength, featuring nations such as 2023 reigning champions South Africa, Kenya, Tunisia, Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Ghana, Mauritius, Uganda, Zambia, Senegal and Cote D’ Ivoire.
The Tournament will serve as the qualifier for the 2025 World Rugby Challenger Series, bringing together 12 national teams – reigning champs South Africa and top contenders Kenya, Tunisia and Zimbabwe,
Hosting the Africa Women’s Sevens is a huge milestone for Ghana. It reflects the growing stature of rugby in the country and across West Africa, particularly in promoting women’s sports.
The Government of Ghana, under the leadership of His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has been a strong advocate for the development of sports infrastructure and the promotion of gender equality in athletics.
Hosting this tournament is a significant step in showcasing the country’s commitment to supporting women in sports and positioning Ghana as a growing hub for international sports events.
The Rugby Stadium at the University of Ghana is the first purpose-built rugby stadium in West Africa. The venue, completed earlier this year for the 2023 African Games, symbolizes the region’s dedication to advancing sports development.
