VIDEO: The missing piece in Bok puzzle

SPOTLIGHT: Former Springbok centre Robbie Fleck believes South Africa will spring a few surprises on attack against Ireland in July.

Former All Black flyhalf Tony Brown is now in charge of the Boks’ attacking game and Fleck is confident that the Boks will add a few more strings to their bow for the two-Test series.

The last time these two teams met was during the pool stages at last year’s World Cup with Ireland coming out on top with a 13-8 win.

In conversation with Boks Office host Hanyani Shimange and Springbok legend Schalk Burger, Fleck said that Tony Brown could be the missing piece in the puzzle when it comes to taking the Boks to the next level.

“The key difference for me is the appointment of Tony Brown,” said Fleck.

“We had plenty of set-piece opportunities in their [Ireland’s] 22 or just outside of their 22 [In Paris]. With Tony there, who has an exceptional rugby brain, I feel that he will bring some proper attacking acumen to the table.

“He is a genius attack coach, especially from set-pieces. He is going to bring something really different.”

Fleck says Ireland will be working harder on the field to contain the Springboks’ dangermen.

“It’s just not going to be Damian de Allende into the vacuum and the forwards coming in around the corner.

“There will be subtle differences in what we do from mauls, what we do from a five-man line-out and with the second-phase options.

“I think we are going to be a far more dynamic attacking outfit with him in the mix, which is going to put Ireland under pressure.

“Ireland can defend us if we are just coming around the corner, but if we start showing them different options and pictures, I think it is a different story.”
