Lydiate faces three-month lay-off

The Ospreys flank suffered the injury while captaining his country in last weekend's 13-27 warm-up defeat by England at Twickenham which preceded Wales' series against the world champion All Blacks.

Now the 28-year-old Lydiate is looking at three months on the sidelines.

"Dan sustained a significant injury to the AC joint in his right shoulder, caused by an impact during the England game on Sunday," said Ospreys physio Anthony Carter.

"He's been seen by Richard Evans, shoulder specialist at Spire Cardiff, who confirmed that the shoulder requires stabilisation via surgery, after which there is an expected rehab period of 12-14 weeks."

Ellis Jenkins was called up to replace Lydiate earlier in the week.

Wales were already without wing Alex Cuthbert and flank Justin Tipuric through injuries for the New Zealand trip, while captain Sam Warburton is recovering from a shoulder injury that sidelined him this weekend.

Back row forward Warburton, however, is expected to be fit for the opening Test against New Zealand in Auckland on June 11.

Wales have not defeated the All Blacks since 1953 and have never won a Test against them in New Zealand in seven attempts.
