Roberts injury scare for Wales

Wales coach Warren Gatland will be hoping that star centre Jamie Roberts recovers from his knee injury in time for the start of the 2012 RBS Six Nations.

Roberts limped off in the second half of the Cardiff Blues’ Pro12 Welsh derby against the Newport Gwent Dragons, and the severity of the injury has yet to be confirmed, which will no doubt have Gatland worried.

The imposing inside centre came on as a second-half replacement for Dafydd Hewitt and went down with the knee injury before Dragons fullback Martyn Thomas collided with him and the medical staff while he was receiving treatment on the field.

Cardiff coach Gareth Baber said that the injury would be assessed as soon as possible, which signals an anxious wait for Gatkand who will be hopeful that the 25-year-old midfield ace will be fit for Wales’ opening Six Nations fixture against Ireland on February 5, 2012.
