Welsh great Gallacher passes on
Senior figures within Welsh rugby paid tribute to Stuart Gallacher after it was announced Sunday that the former Scarlets chief executive had died aged 68.
Gallacher, who played both Rugby Union and Rugby League for Wales, was also the first chief executive of Regional Rugby Wales – the umbrella group representing the club's professional clubs – and a board member of European Rugby Cup.
A minute's silence in memory of Gallacher was due to take place during the Welsh Rugby Union's Annual General Meeting in Port Talbot on Sunday.
"Stuart dedicated his life outside his family to the game of rugby, and his contribution down the years will prove a fitting epitaph to his commitment and loyalty," said WRU chief executive Roger Lewis.
"His understanding and love for the game meant he was always able to contribute positively to important decisions which formed the road map for the development of the sport."
WRU president Dennis Gethin added: "It is rare for anyone to achieve so much both on and off the field within our game, but Stuart was an exceptional individual who gave so much."
