Six Nations champions Wales were dealt a cruel blow with the news that loose forward Dan Lydiate is likely to miss the year-end internationals through injury.
The star flank, Lydiate, faces a lengthy lay-off after suffering a fracture and also dislocated his ankle in the Newport Gwent Dragons' Pro12 match against Edinburgh on Friday.
Tom Prydie won the battle of the fledgling kickers with an 18-point haul to help the Dragons maintain their excellent record over Edinburgh with a 32-12 victory.
However, the win was soured as the Dragons' star flank was helped off three minutes into the match at Rodney Parade.
The 24-year-old was unable to put any weight on his left leg as he departed, aided by medical staff.
Lydiate will undergo surgery on Sunday and is set to be out for several months, missing Wales' year-end autumn Test programme.
Wales face Argentina, Samoa, New Zealand and Australia on successive weekends starting on November 10.
Lydiate has won 27 Wales caps and was named Six Nations player of the tournament in their 2012 Grand Slam campaign.
He is also seen as a strong contender for a place on the 2013 British and Irish Lions tour to Australia.
