Bulls lure Sharks playmaker to Pretoria
NEWS: The Bulls have won the tug-of-war with the Sharks and landed the signature of Boeta Chamberlain.
The Bulls made the announcement on social media on Thursday.
Rumours were rife that the Bulls were after the utility back since early January this year, but the Sharks stood firm, saying they were in ‘serious negotiations’ with Chamberlain and that he was contracted with the Durbanites until June 2025.
The 25-year-old is a versatile back that can comfortably play fullback and flyhalf and the move by the Bulls to lure Chamberlain to Pretoria will boost their backline options.
He has been in and out of the Sharks sides since John Plumtree took over and this likely made the Bulls offer an attractive one, also in the wake of rising star Siya Masuku’s recent sterling performances at flyhalf.
Jake White, the Bulls’ Director of Rugby, repeatedly talks about building the side to comfortably compete in two different competitions at the same time and the added versatility of a player like Chamberlain would add to their depth.
Chamberlain made his Currie Cup debut for the Sharks in August 2019, starting in their match against the Golden Lions during the sixth round of the 2019 season.

The 25-year-old hails from Paarl Boys High, and his antics on the field soon caught the attention of the Sharks, leading to his inclusion in their ranks.
