Bouilhou rejects Toulouse offer

Toulouse great Jean Bouilhou on Monday signed a two-year contract with second tier Pau after rejecting an offer from the French giants to become a member of the coaching staff.

The 34-year-old back row forward, who despite his club success was capped just twice by France a decade ago, is believed to have been annoyed that the club chiefs wanted him to take a large salary cut, stop playing and assume an unspecified coaching role.

Bouilhou, who came through the youth system at Pau, joined Toulouse in 1999 and was a member of the sides that won three European Cups and four French titles.

Bouilhou, who joins a Pau side that narrowly lost out on promotion to the top tier after losing in the play-off Final to Brive, is the third member of the golden generation to leave the club since they bowed out in the French championship semifinals.

Veteran centre Yannick Jauzion, who has yet to decide whether he will play for another club, and prop Jean-Baptiste Poux, who signed for Top 14 rivals Bordeaux-Begles, also brought the curtain down on their spectacular spells at Toulouse.
