Chiefs re-sign crowd favourite

Popular Chiefs prop Ben Tameifuna has recommitted to the franc hise for the 2015 season.

The strong scrummager and crowd favourite said his decision to stay was simple.

"I am a Chief by choice," the burly front row forward said.

"There is a great amount of support in all aspects of this environment which is important for me to continue to develop both on and off the field."

Chiefs coach Dave Rennie acknowledged the 22-year-old has made big shifts on and off the field.

"We are really happy with Tama [Tameifuna]," Rennie said.

"He's a powerful man, a destructive tackler with an impressive skillset.

"Ben does an amazing job in our community. He is fantastic with people and we are rapt he's back on board next year."

Tameifuna made his Chiefs debut in March 2012 against the Blues and has played 48 games for the side.

He was part of the 2011 New Zealand Under-20 Junior World Championship side and has also represented New Zealand Secondary Schools and will play his NPC rugby for Waikato.
