Early release for Stormers No.9?

The Stormers have confirmed that they are considering granting scrumhalf Dewald Duvenage an early release from his contract in order for him to join French Top 14 club Perpignan.

Weekend media reports revealed that Duvenage is one of seven new players that will join Perpignan next season, along with former South African Under-20 wing Wandile Mjekevu.

In a statement issued on Sunday Western Province Rugby, the parent body of the Stormers, confirmed they  had received an offer from a French club to sign Duvenage.

"We have been approached about Dewaldt, and are aware of an offer that has been made to him, but he is still under contract and he has not been released by us [as of yet;'" Western Province Rugby CEO Rob Wagner said.

"However, WP Rugby will not stand in Dewaldt's way and we are considering the offer and the request to give him an early release from his contract should he wish to play for a foreign club, dependent on terms and conditions being met."

Duvenage, who turns 25 in May, has played 61 matches for the Stormers and an additional 51 games for WP.
