History beckons

With the wonderful Andes as a dramatic backdrop, Estadio Malvinas Argentinas in Mendoza will have its name etched in history.

Argentina will host South Africa in the first ever Rugby Championship Test to be played in this part of the world.

The city of Mendoza, lying on one of the highest areas of the Andes, under the gaze of Aconcagua – the highest mountain in the Western and Southern Hemispheres – is the capital of a beautiful province, of the same name, proud to be the producer of some of the best Argentinean wines.

Located in the Parque General San Martin, the Malvinas Argentinas Stadium, has a capacity for 45,000 spectators and is the historical stage where Argentine rugby will write a new page in its history.

The Pumas last played there in 2007, when they beat Italy.

This stadium, remodelled, was built in 1976 for the Soccer World Cup that was played in Argentina in 1978.
