Hodgson kicks on

Charlie Hodgson has become the first player to score 2000 points in the English Premiership.

The Saracens flyhalf was on top form in the opening round of the new season, scoring four conversions and three penalties against London Irish to take him over the 2 000 milestone to 2009 points, a feat which has never before been achieved in Premiership history.

Phil Winstanley, Rugby Director of the Premiership  said: "I'd like to congratulate Charlie on this fantastic achievement.  Charlie had just emerged on to the scene in 2000 when I was finishing my career at Sale Sharks.

"Whilst today is recognising his significant achievements with the boot, his ability in all other aspects of the game shouldn't be forgotten.  He has shown time and again what a devastating attacking threat he is and his ability to pick out runners on the gain line is a constant threat to defenders.  He was pivotal in Sale Sharks' success and is proving just as influential at Saracens," he added.

Hodgson, who has played for Saracens and Sale Sharks at flyhalf, will be presented with a trophy to mark his achievement along with a cheque donation to the charity of his choice.

Those snapping at the heels of Hodgson include Andy Goode on 1635 points and Olly Barkley on 1531 points.  Jonny Wilkinson is on 1489 points, Barry Everitt on 1267 and Tim Stimpson on 1243 in the points scoring table.
