Joubert 'refs' the cricket
International Rugby Referee, Craig Joubert, will be swapping his whistle for the dreaded finger after being appointed as one of the two men in the middle for the Nelson Mandela Legacy Cup match at the Wanderers Stadium on Friday.
Joubert will umpire the Proteas vs Springboks T20 match alongside Patrick Jele.
The 37-year-old Joubert made his umpiring debut earlier this year when he officiated in the first match between these teams.
“It was a great experience standing in the middle during the first encounter between the Boks and the Proteas,” said Joubert.
“I have always loved and supported cricket and the Proteas. I watched the recent ODI series in Australia with much interest, supporting our boys and keeping an eye on the umpires to pick up a few tips!
“To be part of this great occasion is a real thrill for me and I’m looking forward to the match on Friday,” added Joubert.
In other news around the Nelson Mandela Legacy Cup, Proteas batsman Rilee Rossouw has been withdrawn from the squad as a precaution due to a finger injury. He will be replaced by Highveld Lions batsman, Temba Bavuma.
