Sharks are on fire

The Sharks may be in Brisbane, but the homefires are still burning at Kings Park where one of the suites caught fire on Thursday morning.

The suite, which is located in the north-west upper level of the stadium caught fire at 06.30 on Thursday morning and was fortunately extinguished soon afterwards by the local fire department who were quick to respond to an emergency call.

Sharks CEO Brian van Zyl explained: "The extent of the damage is minimal. The stadium and the rest of the suites and stands have not been affected. It will be business as usual for us as we are hosting the junior Sharks games here on Friday afternoon, when The Sharks Under-19 and U21s will play against the Free State."

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage and a full investigation will take place. As soon as additional information is gathered and the finding of the origin of the blaze is established, a further statement will be issued.

Van Zyl added: "We appreciate all of the calls and concerns from the public and we wish to compliment the Durban Central Fire Department for responding within minutes and doing an excellent job in extinguishing the fire."
