Triple treat for WP

Western Province fans had three very good reasons to celebrate at the weekend.

Not only did their Currie Cup team advance to the Final, but their Under-21 and Under-19 teams will also play in their respective finals.

WP coach Allister Coetzee watched as his men knocked the Golden Lions out with a last-minute try in Johannesburg, winning 21-16.

Amazingly, it was Coetzee's first-ever win in WP colours in Johannesburg, the coach having tasted defeat on five previous occasions.

"As WP coach, it was my first win in Johannesburg," he said.

"But, across the board, it's been a great day for WP rugby with all three our teams in finals next weekend."

The Province Under-19 team booked their place in the U19 Final after beating the Golden Lions 24-14 at the Markotter Fields in Stellenbosch on Saturday.

A last-gasp Pat Howard try saw the WP Under-21 team book a place in the U21 Final, thanks to a dramatic 19-18 win over the Sharks on Saturday.

This week's finals:

Under-19:

Saturday, October 27 – Western Province v Bulls

Under-21:

Saturday, October 27 – Western Province v Blue Bulls

Currie Cup:

Saturday, October 27 – Sharks v Western Province
